proportion>london revealed their new showroom installation to the VM world. Divided into two separate spaces, the showroom housed a multitude of “on-trend” products including bust forms, fibre glass mannequins and accessory presenters. Having taken inspiration from a more focused thinking in fashion and design, proportion>london have transformed their showroom into a tranquil haven of simplicity and calm. In the zen-like gallery surroundings, minimalism ruled for the launch of R A W, a bust form and body collection celebrating authentic unrefined materials in their natural state. Floor to ceiling nylon mesh screens punctuated the room, offering a misty glimpse of the raw fibre-glass and papier-mâché bodies posed behind. |

The diversity of textures and surfaces was clearly apparent, with pigment stained fibre-glass, raw tarnished metal, sandblasted glass, unadulterated beech wood and milky wood stains all vying for attention. Even the wigs were made of pre-hair raw nylon filament! This collection showcases the natural beauty of the mannequin manufacture process and its artisan roots, made all the more poignant when you consider that every piece was made locally. Not claiming to be a totally eco-enthused range (although many pieces actually are), this range is testament to the company’s belief in authenticity and artisan skills. |

In the main showroom space, METROpolitan (the recently launched slim male collection) and his partner FLUID, hung out in tight groups of characterful figures, each with their own unique personality. Against a pale background, echoing deserted mansion rooms, artfully created figures with illustrative style make up and wigs, were casually mixed with abstract tone on tone metallic mannequins for a contemporary take on retail merchandising possibilities. A new reclining option appeared in FLUID, designed to be used on a constrictive 40cm shelf depth! These collections were interspersed with raw accessory pieces, including the new and iconic SKULL: like a piece of modern art for showing eyewear! The installation remains on show for the summer.
